Activated Melamine Resin Particles – Stable Under Pressure
Monodisperse functionalized melamine resin particles were introduced by microParticles GmbH as a new and versatile product family in the late 1990’s. Melamine resin particles are prepared by an acid-catalyzed polycondensation process in aqueous solution using selected melamine resin precursors.
These beads can be functionalized with a variety of surface groups, including:
- -COOH
- -NH2
- -OH
- -SH
Applications:
- Targeted immobilization of biomolecules
- Development of diagnostic assays
- Template synthesis for nanostructures
- These spheres combine high mechanical stability with excellent colloidal behavior across a range of pH and ion conditions.
Using melamine resin beads with carboxylic groups on the surface, many ligands (proteins, antibodies etc) can be coupled to the particle surface.
